Leyburn 1940's Weekend

The 1940's Weekend got off to a flying start with Jayne Darling's Singalong supper at the Old School House on Friday evening. Her easy style and friendly chat added to the enjoyment of her rendition of all the old favourites. The town was buzzing on Saturday and Sunday and the Old School House was overflowing with visitors who enjoyed burgers from our barbecue and bacon butties and other lovely treats from our cafe throughout the day. They spent their money on second hand books, tried to find the buried treasure on our Treasure Map and watched the Crafty Ladies in action and bought from their stalls too. We were mostly blessed with decent weather and Jayne Darling, Mike and Rosemary and Colin Bourdiec entertained us over the two days. Even the showers on Sunday didn't spoil the proceedings and the VE tea party was a great success. The building was jam-packed with visitors eager to listen to Jayne and enjoy the wonderful array of cakes etc on offer in the auditorium and to find out who had won the impressive display of raffle prizes. All in all it was a great weekend at the Old School House - and all down to the efforts of those who worked so hard with all the preparations for the event, gave up their weekends to help out in so many different ways and provided all the wonderful cakes, biscuits etc that were so enjoyed by everyone throughout.
