WHAT IS IT?
National Theatre Live is a groundbreaking project to broadcast world-class theatre to cinemas in the UK and internationally. It launched in June 2009 and has since broadcast more than forty live productions, from both the National Theatre London and other UK theatres.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Each broadcast is filmed in front of a live audience in the theatre. Cameras are carefully positioned throughout the auditorium to ensure that cinema audiences get the ‘best seat in the house’ every time. The picture and sound are beamed via satellite to authorised cinemas, in real time and high definition. Sometimes this is recorded and released for screening as a Blu-ray disc.
WHEN IS IT COMING TO LEYBURN?
Our first live broadcast "I'm Not Running" was streamed to our cinema on 31st January 2019 and since then we've enjoyed a successful and extensive schedule from several providers. Keep an eye on our WHAT'S ON page for up-to-date details. With thanks for equipment funding from the Co-op Local Community Fund
